Currently, we are seeking a Mechanic’s Assistant. This is a perfect opportunity for recent tech school graduate, newly or soon-to-be certified, passionate about the mechanical field who is career-minded, detail-oriented, and takes pride a job well done. The ideal candidate will be independently driven, enjoy learning new things, and self-motivated. In this role, you will serve as a key asset to the Fleet Manager and company overall by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are kept in the highest operating order to assure we get the job done daily.
This is a part-time position to start with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position. With our growth in the industry, there are future opportunities for the right candidate to become a full-time team member and to join our leadership and management team.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Helps mechanic perform maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups and oil changes, checks tires and brakes, replaces spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks.
- Assists mechanic with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights.
- Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed property.
- Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location.
- Maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment.
- Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
- Updates maintenance and repair logs for vehicles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to use power and hand tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Related experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Working in seasonal weather conditions (inclement – hot and cold weather).
- Able to work the assigned hours from Monday through Friday, and Saturdays as needed.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
