Private Spot for Outdoor Family Living

Tucked behind a classic home in historic Glen Ridge, this landscape installation represents a seamless blend of preservation, practicality, and personalized outdoor living. A cramped and failing backyard with deteriorating railroad tie walls, unstable steps, and an abrupt grade shift, was reimagined as a warm and functional outdoor room designed for outdoor family living.

In a town where history is paramount, every aspect of the design required approval from the Glen Ridge Historical Society prior to zoning review. We collaborated closely with the review board, submitting detailed drawings to ensure the project’s aesthetic harmony with the home and neighborhood. Their insights helped shape a design that honors the past while embracing the present.

The resulting space features a safe and stylish composite deck, zoning-compliant patio, privacy planting, and integrated lighting. It’s a flexible family space with room to grill, gather, and unwind. It now feels as timeless as the town itself.
