Custom Planting Design in North Caldwell, NJ
This planting design project in North Caldwell, NJ, completed an outdoor living space that had been left unfinished by a previous contractor. While the plunge pool, grill area, and retaining walls had already been constructed, the landscape lacked the planting design needed to bring the entire property together.
Sponzilli Landscape Group was brought in to develop and install a planting plan that would soften the hardscape features, enhance the overall aesthetic, and create a more cohesive outdoor environment.
Landscape Planting Design
The focus of this project was the design and installation of new plantings throughout the backyard and side yard areas. The planting plan was carefully developed to complement the existing pool, outdoor living features, and retaining walls while adding texture, color, and visual interest throughout the landscape.
By introducing thoughtfully selected plant material, the previously incomplete outdoor space was transformed into a finished and welcoming environment that better connected the various elements of the property.
Completing the Vision
A custom gas-fired fire pit was integrated into the patio design to create a comfortable focal point for outdoor entertaining and evening use.
To support the installation, a new gas line was routed from the opposite side of the home. The fire pit was finished with upgraded granite coping, providing a refined and durable finish that complements the surrounding masonry materials.
Ongoing Landscape Maintenance
Following the completion of the planting installation, Sponzilli Landscape Group began providing ongoing landscape maintenance services for the property. Today, the landscape continues to be maintained through weekly and annual maintenance programs to help preserve the health, appearance, and long-term success of the planting design.
Our project included replacing and expanding our existing patio, installing a drainage system to address ongoing water issues, and refreshing our landscaping. From start to finish, Peter was fantastic. He responded quickly to every email, no matter how small the question, and was always upfront, transparent, and honest throughout the entire process. We never felt pressured into making decisions or adding to the project, the experience was stress-free.
Our town had several additional permit requirements that made the approval process much more complicated than expected. Everyone at Sponzilli stayed on top of the process, keeping us informed along the way.
The installation crew was also great. They were courteous, punctual, hardworking, and kept disruption to a minimum.
During the project, an accident resulted in our neighbor’s tree being knocked down. Sponzilli immediately contacted our neighbors directly, took full responsibility, and worked with them to find a solution they were happy with. They ultimately replaced the tree with a beautiful mature tree.
We couldn’t be happier with how our backyard turned out—it exceeded our expectations. We will absolutely use Sponzilli Landscaping Group again for any future landscaping projects.
We have used them for a backyard refresh and to creating a short stacked stone retaining wall to create a bed along the driveway. Their crew is knowledgable and hard working and we had three great projects. Their design drawings sealed the deal for me, so wonderful to visually see what it would look like!
