Poolscape Design & Patio Installation in North Caldwell, NJ
This poolscape renovation in North Caldwell, NJ transformed an existing backyard into a more functional and inviting outdoor living space. Working with an existing swimming pool and stamped concrete pool deck, the project introduced a custom patio, seat walls, fire pit, new walkways, privacy planting, landscape lighting, and irrigation improvements to create a more cohesive outdoor environment.
Patio Renovation & Hardscape Improvements
One of the primary challenges was redesigning a backyard where the swimming pool had already been installed without an overall landscape design. To improve the layout, a portion of the existing stamped concrete pool deck was removed to create space for a new patio, seat wall, and fire pit.
The new patio was constructed using NicoLock Stoneridge pavers in Chesapeake Blend with a contrasting border that closely matches the existing hardscape, creating a seamless transition between the original and newly installed patio areas.
Seat Wall, Fire Pit & Walkway Installation
A custom seat wall was incorporated to provide additional seating while helping retain the existing slope surrounding the patio.
New steps and a connecting walkway were installed to improve the transition from the driveway to the backyard while creating a better connection to the existing deck. These improvements also created a more usable lawn area for relaxing and enjoying the outdoor space.
A wood-burning fire pit finished with a bluestone cap serves as a welcoming gathering space for family and friends.
Privacy Planting & Landscape Enhancements
Privacy plantings and additional landscape materials were installed to screen the area beneath the existing deck while enhancing the overall appearance of the backyard.
The new planting design softens the surrounding hardscape and creates a more private and comfortable outdoor environment.
Landscape Lighting & Irrigation
The irrigation system was renovated as part of the overall landscape improvements.
Tiki torch lighting and additional landscape lighting accents were installed around the steps and along the seat wall to improve visibility while enhancing the ambiance of the outdoor living space after dark.

Our project included replacing and expanding our existing patio, installing a drainage system to address ongoing water issues, and refreshing our landscaping. The installation crew was also great. They were courteous, punctual, hardworking, and kept disruption to a minimum.
During the project, an accident resulted in our neighbor’s tree being knocked down. Sponzilli immediately contacted our neighbors directly, took full responsibility, and worked with them to find a solution they were happy with. They ultimately replaced the tree with a beautiful mature tree.
We couldn’t be happier with how our backyard turned out—it exceeded our expectations. We will absolutely use Sponzilli Landscaping Group again for any future landscaping projects.
We have used them for a backyard refresh and to creating a short stacked stone retaining wall to create a bed along the driveway.
