Position:  Licensed Landsape Architect

Position Summary:

Sponzilli Landscape Group, a luxury Landscape Design/Build company, is seeking an experienced Licensed Landscape Architect to join their award winning high-end residential design team.  Daily tasks will include, but are not limited to, seeing a project through all its design phases, project estimating, preparing presentations, and creating construction drawings.  This person will supervise and delegate work to the junior design staff to ensure that project deadlines and budgets are being met.   A key responsibility for this position is to ensure that the client’s needs are being exceeded on a daily basis through innovative and cutting edge design.  This person will report directly to the Design Department Head and collaborate with assistant design team members, salespeople, as well as production and administrative staff.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Provide industry knowledge and information
  • Must be a team player and able to work with Junior Designers, Salespeople, Department Head, Administration Assistants, and Production Managers on a daily basis
  • Oversee and delegate work to the Junior Design staff
  • Oversee the design scheduling to ensure deadlines are being met
  • Conduct site inventory and analysis
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to obtain estimates, visit sites, etc.
  • Contact vendors to research materials
  • Communicate with other design professionals such as Architects, Engineers, etc.
  • Produce innovative and cutting edge conceptual landscape designs utilizing computer drafting programs/hand drawn if necessary
  • Prepare construction drawings, details, and specifications
  • Estimating
  • Presentation preparation
  • Sign/seal drawings as necessary
  • Present designs in front of review boards, municipal boards, etc.
  • Be able to work longer hours if necessary to ensure the project deadline is met
  • Visit local municipalities to research permit requirements
  • Submit permit applications
  • Monitor progress of permits




  • 5+ years’ experience working as Certified Landscape Architect
  • 2+ years’ experience working on residential projects
  • Field experience is a must
  • Bachelors or Master Degree in Landscape Architecture
  • Licensed in state of New Jersey, New York a plus


  • Field experience in landscape installation / constructions
  • Field experience in snow removal operations
  • Experience managing a department
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent delegating and follow-through skills

Special Skills and Certifications:

  • Proficient with a CAD based program is a must, Dynascape experience is preferred
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and Sketchup, 3D imaging
  • Extensive knowledge of developing planting plans, grading plans, lighting plans, and construction details a must
  • Thorough knowledge of local plant identification, specification and growth habits
  • Training course certifications of relating to landscape construction or team management preferred
  • Experience in working with local and national vendors
  • Detail orientated with strong organizational, time and resource management skills
  • Valid driver’s license
