Patio Design with Pergola and Fireplace

Project Description:
Stone pavers were laid throughout the property to connect the front walkway, driveway and backyard paths. Two pillars, surrounded by river rock stones, mark the entrance to the backyard. A sloped pathway with precisely placed landscape lighting leads to the fireplace and kitchen areas in the rear of the home. Retaining walls with colorful plants were placed strategically in the design to prevent possible erosion due to the slant of the yard.

The same stone design from the retaining walls was also incorporated into the garden beds in the front and side of the home. Raised granite countertops were placed in the kitchen area to allow for bar seating. A dining area with a second pergola and lush green climbing plants create additional areas to eat, entertain, and enjoy this inspired backyard design.

A cement mixer was brought in to pour the concrete base for the fireplace and pergola area. Irregular bluestone in a full range of colors was laid on top of the concrete to create the patio’s rustic design. A 4’ slate planter urn by Atlantic Water Gardens was positioned within the design near the fireplace as an added focal point.

Cardboard ‘Sonotube’ was used to hold the custom-built cedar pergola’s footings in place. Metal framing was constructed to hold the cement board shell utilized to house the fireplace insert made by Superior Fireplaces. A ‘California Gold’ stone veneer by MS International, Inc. was applied to the exterior of the fireplace and its storage areas. To keep it in line with the rest of the design’s décor, the same veneer was continued in the outdoor kitchen area which includes a barbeque, full range oven, sink, refrigerator and storage areas.
