Barclays Center Wins New York Insider Best Project of the Year 2013

Barclays Center was named the ENR New York Insider Best Project of the Year award for 2013 for the New York Region.

The Barclays Center, a 675,000 sq. ft. arena in Brooklyn will soon host the NBA Nets basketball team and the NHL NY Islanders hockey team home games. With seating for 18,100, Barclays Center has already hosted more than 200 events since opening last fall.

Developed by Forest City Ratner Cos., with the design-build process by Hunt Construction and a collaboration of a number of other companies, the center was an enormous undertaking. Sponzilli Landscape Group’s part in the project included installation of the plaza, the pavers, street trees, the sod plaza at the rear of the arena, and the new green roof on the subway entrance.

The Urban Landscape Division at Sponzilli understands the importance of including natural green space to densely populated urban areas and specializes in working with design teams including architects, LEED consultants, engineers, and landscape architects.
